New York update I - 11/5/2011

Peace Run 2011: 5th November – New York is breathtakingly beautiful … An absolute world city. Everything here is much bigger and more colourful. Here we meet upon several different cultures, faiths and skin colours. The national pride is also very present, U.S. flags and banners hang everywhere. We are always aware of what it must mean to be an American, if you talk about or mention the 11th September 2001.

People are taken aback and are grateful for our project. They tell their own story and tell of the experiences of 10 years ago.

The third Part of our message of peace - in memory of the victims of Ground Zero in New York - is in full swing. The following day, fit and rested we (John, Swen and Sven) go to the next appointment. At 10 O’clock the German Consulate welcomes us in the name of Ellen Gölz, where the final information is to be exchanged for the wreath laying. At 11:30 it’s time to get the subway from the United Nations Plaza on 1st Avenue to the Washington Plaza.

For the ceremony on the 7th of November John had already, in a small flower shop ordered our wreath. The reception by Mary and Peter is very welcoming. They are absolutely bubbling over with ideas and you can feel that the wreath will be perfect. We give them the ribbons from the towns of Osnabrück and Münster and the Volksbank Munster marathon, plus ours from Sportler 4 a childrens world so that they can decorate the wreath.

Our impressions so far, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Tomorrow is the marathon.
