Fraport-run 2011 - Great event with a tragic end
With a record participation of over 1500 starters for the 5 km and 10 km distance, the runners on Thursday the 30th of June 2011 were sent with pleasant temperatures into the race. Nobody could have guessed that this event with such a great atmosphere be overshadowed by a so tragic incident.
A runner, in his mid 50s collapsed, and could not be saved despite reanimation efforts. After the end of the run and before the start of the "second half" the runners, their families, friends and colleagues from the Frankfurt airport were in the large tent that was used for several days during the opening of the new runway for a variety of festivities informed about this tragic incident. The event was subsequently terminated immediately.
We from S4acw were also very sad and shocked and would like to express in this way as unknown our condolences and our sympathy to the bereaved.
Despite this tragedy we would like to express our gratitude towards the organizers, Claudia Amier, Colin Stejskal and Marcus Fischer for the invitation. It was the 10th Fraport run and we were invited for the third consecutive year as guests here. The great atmosphere of this very familiar event appeals to us so much that we set off Thursday lunchtime on the way to Frankfurt. We, that is John McGurk, Sven Köster, Klaus Karschewski and Lars Hindersmann took part on the 10 km run, with Detlef Kösters, Michael Steins and Helmut Hörnschemeyer as cheering spectators, thank once again for this honour as guests by this event.
